Where to swim safely with your family - La Tranche sur Mer and the Sud Vendée’s beaches

La Tranche sur Mer – a “Famille plus” French beach resort
- Plage centrale: This is the main beach of the resort. A large sandy west coast beach situated between the Maupas lake and the Aunis pavillon, and has lifeguard supervision.
This beach is very lively and extremely popular as it is near to the town centre. Accessible to people with reduced mobility. Numerous large car parks are close at hand and free except in July and August.
- Plage Sainte Anne: This family beach is supervised and is located in La Griére. The beach offers a vast fine sandy beach which stretches into the distance with a beautiful view of La Faute sur Mer. Here, it is possible to try land yachting. The access is easy for people with reduced mobility. Parking is available near the Boulevard Sainte Anne.
- Plage du Phare: This beach is situated to the west of the town centre and provides lifeguard supervision. Its impressive sand dunes retain their preserved, unspoilt natural environment. The beach has remnants of WWII bunkers which are quite dominant on the landscape. Parking is close at hand.
- Plage de la Terrière: This beach situated on the northern side of the resort, stretches over 2 km. It has an unspoilt spirit with beautiful dunes and a delightful forest. The beach is supervised, and it is possible to try numerous summer activities: such as land yachting and surfing. Access to the beach is via paths that cross the various dunes (access 152 is tarmacked, the others are sandy). A huge car park with over 500 spaces is close by.
La Faute sur Mer a french beach resort full of surprises
- La Grand Plage: This beach is not far from the resort’s town centre and stretches over several kilometres. It is accessible to people with reduced mobility. There are several car parks nearby that are free all year round, including the summer period.
- Plage des Belugas: A long and beautiful sandy french beach, located at the tip of the Pointe d'Arçay peninsula. It faces the Ile de Ré and the offshore mussel farms. Lifeguards supervise this family-friendly beach where children have free access to a play area. The beach is accessible to people with reduced mobility as well as tiralos (a beach buggy on which a person can by pushed into the sea to "swim"). To reach the lovely spot, take the Boulevard de la Forêt at the junction with Avenue de l'Océan and follow the path. Large free parking areas are relatively close to the beach.
- Plage des Chardons: This pretty, supervised beach is bordered by a beautiful forest where family picnics can be enjoyed under the shade of the pine trees. The beach is very wide with dunes separating it from the forest. Free, all year-round parking areas are close by. Access to the beach is via various paths through the sand dunes.
- Plage de la Barrique: This vast sandy beach has lifeguard supervision during the summer season which stretches right along the coast to La Faute sur Mer. Here, it is possible to try your hand at sand yachting. Free, all year-round parking is within walking distance.
