Vix wine estate – a “vine” nursery
With 40 hectares under the appellation "Fiefs Vendéens", the terroir of Vix extends over the communes of Auzay, Longèves, Poiré sur Velluire and Vix. The Fiefs Vendéen of Vix is located south of Fontenay le Comte where the vines grow on a limestone island. This position is favourable to the whites with hints of flint. There are Sauvignon and Négrette as other grape varieties.

Domaine Mercier – a pioneering family affair
The history of the vineyard dates to Gallo-Roman times. It was in 1890 that the Mercier family moved to Vix. The development of the Estate is closely linked to their Vine nursery activity for which the family know-how is recognised worldwide. Plants occupy an important place on the Estate. Frantz Mercier, a fourth-generation family member, is today at the origin of all the Domaine's cuvées.
The vine plants covering the 50 hectares are produced directly on the estate. A guarantee of traceability as well as an additional promise of quality for the estates wine.
The visit of the vineyard provides a total change of scenery. The clay-limestone hill on which the vines are planted was once an island. From the Cave /cellar, there is an exceptional panoramic view over the entire Marais poitevin, which was previously covered by the sea. The exceptional terroir of Vix allows the development of great red wines - powerful, generous, elegant, and marked by the fruit. For the whites, it is the colder northern exposures that are preferred to obtain subtle, precise, and tense aromas.
