The walk begins in Luçon at the Dumaine gardens. Here, you can take a relaxing break in the park and stroll along the shady paths, while admiring: the wrought-iron kiosk, the palm trees and topiary depicting the La Fontaine’s Fables. (Jean de la Fontaine was a fable writer and one of the most widely read French poets in the 17th century. He collected fables from a variety of sources and adapted them into French verse).
Now it’s time for lunch. So, return to your car and drive to the Au fil des Saisons restaurant. "Tradition" and "Discoveries" are the watchwords of Chef Laurent Soulard, who promises you a tasty meal made with seasonal produce.
Now it’s off to l’Aiguillon sur Mer, on the South coast of the Vendée. The Baie de l’Aiguillon is an important shellfish farming area: oysters, shellfish, clams, and mussels… At low tide, rows of mussel beds “Les moules de bouchot” will appear.
At the Pointe de l'Aiguillon, Mr Gaudin offers tours of his Bouchot mussel farm located on the “Route de l’Huître Atlantique (the Atlantic oyster route). Available every Thursday at 4 pm or by prior booking. A tasting session is also available at the end of the tour which will satisfy even the most demanding palates. Make the most of your visit to the bay by discovering the delights of the National Nature Reserve. The Pointe de l’Aiguillon is the ideal place to observe the exceptional landscapes of the dunes and migratory birds. The view from here is uninterrupted, with a spectacular sweeping panorama of the Pointe d’Arcy and Ile de Ré.
