The Mélusine Tower is currently closed to visitors. It is due to reopen in April 2024.
The Mélusine tower stands 36 metres high, offering an exceptional panoramic view of the Mervent-Vouvant forest and the village of Vouvant.
It dates from the early 13th century, or even the very end of the 12th century. It is circular, which was exceptional for its time. A long-gone chapel once stood against it.
According to legend, the tower was built by the fairy Mélusine.
Discover 2 vaulted domed rooms and enjoy an incredible panoramic view of the medieval town, the river La Mère and the beginning of the forest from the top of the tower!
Keys to the Tower can be hired from the Tourist Information Office, Place du Bail, from Easter to All Saints' Day (not currently accessible).
For even more fun, discover the Mélusine Tower with the "Save the Mélusine Tower" game! This Fontenautes experience, combining virtual reality and mini-games, takes you back to the Middle Ages, accompanied by the fairy Mélusine, to discover the fortified castle of Vouvant.
